:: Do I have hail damage?
If you have been in a hailstorm the most obvious damage that you can see is to cars. You can see the damage immediately after the last ice nugget has fallen from the sky. The hood and roof of a car is now riddled with small or large dents, often called “pits”. Most people do not ever consider that their home was damaged as well.
Your roof is just as susceptible to the ramifications of hail as the hood of your car. When hail hits your roof it creates a bruise. This bruise may have even cracked the fiberglass membrane and can allow water to seep into your home. It may not leak the day after the storm but over time it will happen.
:: What does it look like?
In the same way, siding and flashing are also very vulnerable to wind driven hail. There often is openly visible, with siding pieces and even debris driven into the siding easily identified. When siding is chipped, cracked or open, water will find its way in. This is sure trouble for many reasons. Most importantly, rotting and mold.
Although sometimes hail pits and bruises are easily identified, more often the damage is not visible to the average person.
